King Richard’s Faire
So today, I took my family to King Richard’s Faire, a renaissance-themed park in Carver, MA. It’s awesome. Walk through the gates, and suddenly you’re in a 2026-modernized version of a middle-ages village. The have shops, food, sword fighting lessons, pony rides, human powered kiddie rides, and eleven stages running different kinds of shows: Singing Wenches, the Loud Mime, the “Mud Show”, an actual Joust - complete with a timpani player to set the mood. Many people come to the faire dressed in different versions of Renaissance costume. Juli and I indulged ourselves by wearing cloaks. Say what you want. It was really fun. Every part of it.
Personally, I was a little nervous about going simply because my knees don’t hold up like they used to. Too much walking becaomes problematic. But then not enough walking becomes a “use it or lose it” proposition. I got through the day very tired by the end.
It was the best day. Both my children (who are adults now), my wife and my son-in-law came along. Sometimes the best moments come when you’re not trying to make them the best moments.
Oh by the way, I highly recommend King Richard’s Faire for a day-trip. Totally worth it. Wear comfy shoes.
