This is the upcoming 3rd CD release from Jon Finn Group. This is by far their most ambitious and varied work. With special guests ranging from members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra all the way to a “moonlighting” high-school social studies teacher, this CD certainly has a long of sonic range. Mixed by Randy Roos and Mastered by Bob Ludwig, we also believe it is our best-sounding work too. 12 songs, 52 minutes total.

Wicked CoverWickedAdd to Cart: $15 + S&H, also available on iTunes
Jon Finn Group’s second cd. Released on their own SEP Records label in 1998, gained quite a lot of critical acclaim (Guitar Player Magazine exclaimed “Wicked Rocks”). Featuring Joe Santerre on bass, Dave DiCenso on Drums, Ross Ramsay on keyboards and Jon Finn on guitar, this CD is the next logical step in their musical evolution; focusing more on the compositions and and ensemble chemistry. This CD continues their tradition of exploring wildly disparate musical styles while exerting an individual musical voice. Guest appearance by Dream Theater’s guitarist John Petrucci. 10 songs, 57 minutes total.

Don’t Look So Serious, the Jon Finn Group’s first cd. Originally released in 1994 by (now defunkt) Legato Records, this is the CD that fist put this band on the underground “instrumental guitar” map! Featuring Joe Santerre on bass, Dave DiCenso on drums and Jon Finn on guitar, this CD has been described by many as a musical roller coaster ride! Be sure to check out “The Industrial Strength Hoedown Extravaganza” for an incredible 8-minute blend of Aaron Copland’s “Hoedown” with a rockin’ chicken-pickin’ fricassee. 15 songs, 66 minutes total.

Advanced Modern Rock Guitar coverAdvanced Modern Rock Guitar Improvisation Book, CD & DVDAdd to Cart: $29.95 + S&H
This book/CD set and DVD both offer a well researched original take on the use of pentatonic scales in rock improvisation. Using his “Warp Refraction Principle,” which takes into account the major third tuning interval between the second and third strings, Jon presents a series of five vertical patterns applied in two-string increments throughout the fretboard. The philosophy behind this project is to present concepts and techniques as a thought process rather than simply providing a reference manual. This is a great book whether you’re a beginner learning about scales and the fretboard, or if you’ve played pentatonic scales for 30 years in the local Skynyrd (FREEBIRD!) cover band. Be sure to check it out.

The riffs in this book were written and presented because they are all fairly easy to play and they sound great. If you’re planning to make rock guitar a lifetime commitment, learn riffs. If you’re simply looking for a way to have fun in your spare time, learn riffs. Any aspiring guitarist can learn these great rock guitar ideas as taught by Jon Finn on this book/2 DVD package. One Guitar, Many Styles coverOne Guitar, Many Styles Book & CDAdd to Cart: $22.95 + S&H
Much of today’s electric guitar centers on playing in a band. We learn the chords, the licks, the solos and sometimes a few of the lyrics. Seldom do we get a chance to play a song by ourselves from beginning to end without band mates or singing. This new book by Berklee faculty and renowned recording artist Jon Finn is a collection of pieces in a variety of musical styles written for unaccompanied solo electric guitar. Techniques covered include pick-and-fingers (reminiscent of Chet Atkins), classical (adapted to electric guitar), jazz, blues, pop, two-handed tapping (like Jennifer Batten or Stanley Jordan) and more. The music is accurately and painstakingly transcribed to match the included recordings. The book also includes pictures and detailed information about playing each piece, both from a technical and artistic point of view. If you want to widen your musical horizons while building up repertoire that you can perform by yourself, this book is for you.
